When will the museum open?

We hope to open the doors to our own facilities by 2007, but our "museum without walls" exhibitions and web-based activities will begin in 2003.

What will it be named?

Although the Museum of Music is our legal name, we may have a different name over the door when the facility opens. This depends on market research, testing, and perhaps a public competition to yield a better operating name. (Donate a major sum of money, and it could even be named after you!)

What if I have an idea for a name?

We want to hear it. After you've explored our website and read the Pavilion Previews, send your ideas to: ideas@museumofmusic.org

What will the facility look like?

Something great. Right now, we're considering two different options:

·

A "single grand facility" could house the entire Museum and all its pavilions. This landmark building would bring marquee value to the downtown area. Distinctive architecture would make it comparable to other great museums and concert halls and would establish a new cultural icon for both music and Atlanta.

·

The alternative "village" or "campus" concept would be built on a cluster of separate buildings within easy walking distance of each other. The closest could be connected by covered walkways, bridges and tunnels. Parks, plazas and other open spaces would separate the facilities and provide attractive new settings for the city. We could combine new construction with existing buildings in a compact, but underused, downtown district; or we might re-develop an existing commercial or industrial site.

Where in Atlanta will the museum be located?

Centrally. There are many sites in the heart of Atlanta that could be developed or redeveloped by the museum. All of these feature easy access to mass transit and major roads.

Neighborhoods under consideration include:

·

Downtown: Auburn Ave./Georgia State University area

·

Downtown: Underground Atlanta area

·

Downtown: Fairlie-Poplar/Centennial Park area

·

Downtown: Civic Center/SciTrek area

·

Midtown: Fox Theatre/Georgia Tech area

·

Midtown: Woodruff Arts Center area

·

Midtown: vicinity Atlantic Station development

·

plus several locations in central Dekalb County

The Downtown and Midtown areas of Atlanta are particularly attractive because they're linked by rapid rail to a world-class airport, have excellent access to highways, and yet still have space available for a project of this magnitude. The many cultural, business, tourism, and hospitality facilities nearby provide excellent opportunities for synergy and mutual growth.

Why base the museum in Atlanta?

It's a perfect match. A hub of media, technology, and the digital arts, it's a new city for a new kind of museum.

Atlanta has grown from a southern crossroads to a global crossroads - with the busiest airport in the world, many corporate headquarters, a dynamic arts community, and a well-developed infrastructure to support major events such as the Centennial Olympic Games.

Atlanta is also highly respected for its multi-racial leadership, private-public partnerships, and well-developed infrastructure. Music communities thrive here, and a host of popular music stars call Atlanta home. The diversity of its music reflects the diversity of the city itself - with its distinguished history as a center for African-American culture and its rapidly growing Latin American and Asian communities.

By locating the museum in Atlanta, we're placing it at a unique crossroads for commerce, culture, and new technologies.
