Takin' Care of Business: Corporate Bands Set to Battle Again Get your motor runnin'... now. Entries for the 3rd annual "Battle of the Corporate Bands" are due at the end of May, with Cleveland's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame awaiting the 8 finalists, who will compete live in October.
Yes, look out Cleveland, the corporate bands are coming through. The 3rd annual battle, sponsored by Fortune magazine, is underway. Entry forms and this year's rules and calendar have been posted, and all around America, jackets have been removed and ties loosened.
Last year, The Raving Daves of the PeopleSoft corporation beat The Marsh Blues Brokers to take top honors. This year, 8 finalists will be selected by a panel of pro judges from the ranks of the strictly-amateur entries received by May 30.
Then, on Oct. 18, 2003, the finalists will each perform a 45-minute showcase at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum. Once again, prizes will be given for overall performance, as well as in categories of Best Vocalist, Best Guitarist, etc. (No glory in having the highest earnings-per-share, at least not until the following Monday morning...)
